Evaluation of Two Connectionist Approaches to Stack Representation
نویسنده
چکیده
This study empirically compares two distributed connectionist learning models trained to represent an arbitrarily deep stack. One is Pol-lack's Recursive Auto-Associative Memory, a recurrent back propagating neural network that uses a hidden intermediate representation. The other is the Exponential Decay Model, a novel architecture that we propose here, which tries to learn an explicit represention that models the stack as an exponentially decaying entity. We show that although the concept of a stack is learnable for both approaches, neither model is able to deliver the arbitrary depth attribute. Ultimately, both suffer from the rapid rate of error propagation inherent in their recursive structures.

متن کاملComputational modeling of dynamic decision making using connectionist networks
In this research connectionist modeling of decision making has been presented. Important areas for decision making in the brain are thalamus, prefrontal cortex and Amygdala. Connectionist modeling with 3 parts representative for these 3 areas is made based the result of Iowa Gambling Task. In many researches Iowa Gambling Task is used to study emotional decision making. In these kind of decisio...
متن کاملStack Based Fitness Evaluation for Phylogenetic Tree Reconstruction Using Genetic Algorithm
The problem considered is the estimation of the evolutionary history of a collection of organisms in terms of a phylogenetic tree using genetic algorithm. This paper presents a new chromosome representation scheme for individuals in the population. A new stack based fitness evaluation method has been proposed to handle the populations generated in genetic algorithms. The problem of phylogenetic...
متن کاملSymbols and Subsymbols for Representing Knowledge: A Catalogue Raisonné
Traditional artificial intelligence studies generally approach the problem of representing knowledge following the so-called knowledge representation hypothesis, as formulated by Brian Smith. More recently the development of the connectionist paradigm has questioned the symbolic approach to the study of the mind bringing about a more articulated view of the problem. This article singles out fiv...
متن کاملLexical is as lexical does: computational approaches to lexical representation
In much of neuroimaging and neuropsychology, regions of the brain have been associated with 'lexical representation', with little consideration as to what this cognitive construct actually denotes. Within current computational models of word recognition, there are a number of different approaches to the representation of lexical knowledge. Structural lexical representations, found in original t...
